Information We Collect

Bar Snap collects the following information to provide our service:

  • Email address and account credentials
  • Age confirmation (we store that you confirmed being 21+, not your date of birth)
  • Your cabinet and pantry contents (bottles, mixers, coffee items, garnishes, and other drink ingredients you add)
  • Photos you upload for bottle or drink-ingredient scanning
  • Location data when you search for nearby stores or bars
  • Usage metrics for rate limiting
  • Recipes, ratings, reviews, and other content you submit
  • Purchase history from receipt scans you upload

Advertiser Information

If you use our advertising platform, we also collect your business name, business type, contact email, website URL, business description, and business address. Payment information for ad campaigns is collected and processed by Stripe.

How We Use Your Information

  • To recommend cocktails, mocktails, coffee drinks, dirty sodas, and party drinks based on your cabinet and pantry
  • To find nearby stores, ingredient stops, and bars relevant to your needs
  • To process photos and suggest bottle or drink-ingredient matches
  • To enforce free and premium tier limits
  • To send transactional emails (account verification, password resets, campaign notifications)
  • To monitor and fix errors in the application

Photo Data

Photos uploaded for bottle and receipt scanning are stored temporarily on our servers and deleted within 24 hours of processing. However, when a scan identifies a product, a cropped image of the product label may be retained permanently as part of our product catalog. AI-generated recipe images are also stored permanently.

Location Data

Location data is used to find nearby stores, ingredient stops, and bars. Your general location (city and state) may also be used to determine which sponsored ads are relevant to your area. We do not track your location in the background or share your precise coordinates with advertisers.

Advertising & Local Storage

Bar Snap displays sponsored content from verified local businesses. To measure ad performance (impressions and clicks), we store an anonymous session identifier in your browser's local storage. This identifier is not linked to your account and cannot be used to identify you personally. We also store navigation state and filter preferences in your browser's session storage to improve your browsing experience.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Bar Snap:

  • Firebase Authentication for account sign-in (email, password, Google)
  • Google Gemini AI for bottle detection, receipt reading, and recipe image generation (photos are sent to Google's servers for processing)
  • Google Places API for nearby store, bar, and business searches
  • Google Geocoding API for determining your general location (city/state) from coordinates
  • Google Maps SDK for map display on Android
  • Google Play Developer API for verifying Android in-app purchases
  • Stripe for payment processing (subscriptions and ad campaigns)
  • MongoDB Atlas for data storage
  • Amazon SES for sending transactional emails
  • Sentry for error tracking and performance monitoring (no personally identifiable information is sent in production)
  • OpenStreetMap / Leaflet for map display on the website
  • Amazon Associates for affiliate product links (ingredient shopping links may earn us a referral commission)

Data Deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from our delete account page or from Settings in the web app or Android app. This action is permanent and cannot be undone.
